In Loving Memory of Larry D'Orsay

Dear SIOR members and community

It is with great sorrow that we inform you that we have lost a most cherished and beloved member of our community, Lawrence “Larry” D’Orsay. On August 12th, 2022, Larry passed away in his home in Mississauga, surrounded by his loved ones. Larry was our Canada Central Chapter president from 1980-1982, SIOR Chairman Canada (1985), and the recipient of the Syd Hamber lifetime achievement award (2017).

Larry was a 50+ year veteran of our industry, and was instrumental in the development and expansion of Toronto, the city he was raised in and loved so much. He started his career at the age of 19 working in downtown Toronto. Back then, Etobicoke was on the outskirts of the city. He was proud to play his part as the industry evolved and most of all he loved the people and the friendships that he built over the years.

An engaged father, doting husband, and committed member of the community, Larry was a mentor and inspiration to all those who knew him. He took many of us under his wing, for he loved to share with and include others.

As a mentor, he exemplified both how to move with sophistication and integrity in business, and what it takes to be a success in our industry. He embodied the values that we at SIOR treasure so dearly, and we are honoured to have been blessed with his devotion.

Larry will be missed dearly, and his warmth and kindness will continue to resonate throughout our organization for many years to come.

From the D’Orsay Family

Our beloved Larry passed away peacefully at his home in Mississauga on Friday August 12th, 2022 surrounded by his wife and children.

He was born in Moncton, New Brunswick and is predeceased by his loving parents Ted and Del D’Orsay. Larry and his parents moved to the Sunnylea area of Toronto at the age of one. They made a community of faith , friendship and involvement all of his growing years. He was a life time member of Royal York Road United Church and attended Sunnylea and Royal York collegiate.

Larry was married and devoted to the love of his life Carroll Dianne Gibson for 56 loving years. He was a proud member of Weston Golf & Country Club and the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors. Larry began a lifelong career in commercial real estate at the age of 19 and became a close friend and colleague to so many throughout the industry which he loved dearly. Larry was loved by his brother Alan James D’Orsay (Darla), brother in Law Gary Kidd and sister and brother in law Nancy and Jim Barber. Larry will always be fondly remembered by his children Michelle, Andrew, Stephen, Melanie, Matthew and Tina and adored Poppa to Taylor, Reese, Colin, Carmen, Lawrence Jr, and John and precious great Poppa to baby Elliott.

We are thankful for all the wonderful memories, close friends and guidance that Larry has provided to all of us throughout his years. Larry loved life, he loved his family and friends and his life’s imprint will forever be etched in our hearts.
